I agree to this hypothesis where the ideal genetically engineered humans will come to represent as “the other.” As humans we have we try to be the best or seem to be dominant in life. Watching the process or seeing other humans that are superior then ourselves we get over protective to our egos. In the movie Gattaca at birth the newborn were checked to see its pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. Looking at the chances that the newborn would have living through out its years. To give change and service the cons within the child scientists can genetically engineer the flaws of the child, which would only be a minor set back. As the main character Vincent seemed to be “the other” between him, his brother, and in life he later on found out that he could genetically change that. George J. Annas’s hypothesis sounds accurate to what I think, which if engineered genetically either they will find us as the other and attempt to destroy us to reach control. As they are genetically engineered they would probably think they are better then us (which they are) and treat us lesser or destroy us. We as regular humans will think bad of those who are genetically engineered thinking they will kill or murder those who aren’t and seek to take control. Only finding them to be better triggering our jealousy automatically making them “the other” causes conflict between the two genes.

Blog 11 "The Other"

A) "The Other" to my understanding would be people being overly concieted if that makes sense.
B) People that are concieted get on my nerve. They just bring an off vibe that they can do whatever thet want when in the real world you gotta work for everything. That action alone is ok but sum people take it to the extent where its just annoying like alright stop being full of yourself. Always comparing yourself to people lower then them. >.<
C) If i was to interact with that someone who belongs to "The Other" i jus turn my head or look at them with a straight face like -__-'. while there talkin i act like im interested in what there sayin unless they give compliments to some people or says saomthing nice at some point then ok but other then that i wud rather stay quiet and jus leave them be so they can leave me be.

Blog 10: Reflection

During this course I liked basically everything. I learned a lot which opened my eyes to more then just looking at life one way. After putting the pieces together (which I do in the classes I don’t really understand) I’ve found out and believed more that the illusions are made in many different ways. I respect this course due to have the studies and information that gave me a new eye to life.
My strengths I would say are giving my own opinions while writing, and also having information to back up my thesis. As my weakness I can doubt myself while in the process of writing, I start to look for help even when I write about myself alone, my grammar can improve.
Using a blog kind of helped me type a little better and I felt comfortable since all I do is use a computer to do things now. I’m glad I don’t have to write because I’ve had horrible penmanship for the last 18yrs of my life going on 19 now and that’s horrible. But I’m glad that we’re using blogs also because I hated blogs until this class started I caught an interest in them now.
I think that my weakest piece would be the very first blog I had to do when I first got to this class. I was still getting used to the blogging and typing about myself and how I felt about stuff. My strongest piece would have to be Blog 7: Matrix Essay. I felt comfortable about writing and doing research on a topic that caught my interest. As blog 6 the idea of the prison house language didn’t give me much of a drive to work as hard as my Matrix Essay. The fact I got feed back from two of my classmates which I thought was helpful.

Conclusion: In conclusion Television brainwashed people on one side of the violence rather then the three sides of the effects of violence. Some feel good from you get what you want out of it an getting away. Some feel bad as in they don't get what they want an they get caught and put straight into jail. Others tend to view the side which people don't tend to see which is the people in the process of the violence that they're hurting.

Discuss what ideas there are in the two texts (The Matrix and Oedipus the King) about the concepts of ignorance, bliss/happiness, and knowledge. Discuss both common elements you see and differences.

Similarities
- They both deal with wanting to know thier future or at least to get a heads up in what's coming up that they should look out for.
- In the Matrix Neo is known as the one, the messiah, the one to guide the people of Zion to victory. During this time he didn't understand or know if he should believe in the prophecy that was told of him but later on in the film he believed as everyone else did as well. Similar to Neo, Oedipus the King went to the oracle and was told he would kill his father and marry his mother. he refused to believe in the oracle while later in the play he found out that what he was told was true and cut his eyes out in the result.
- Both Neo and Oedipus went to the oracle lookin for answers unsure of who they are as a person.

Thesis: The violence shown on television is the problem in most cases. Sending a message to people through a world wide network is what causes most problems.

En.wikipedia.org/wiki/john_thompson_(sociologist)
-This source basically talks about John Thompson a sociologist's meaning of the medias development of mass communication over the years. He discusses how the media its self effects the minds of humans.

Title: Violence In The Media by LeeAnne Gelletly
Publisher: Detroit : Thomson/Gale ; Farmington Hills, MI : Lucent Books, 2004.
112p
-The Book "Violence In The Media" is self explanatory. The book talks about how the media itself promotes and market the violence seen in the world which doesnt send out good personal ratings.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_violence_research
-This link brings up some research on if the violence in the media exists. Giving broad examples of the aggression people used through out time. The results were drastic, this link brings good information to my paper.

http://www.jacksonkatz.com/PDF/ChildrenMedia.pdf
www.nccev.org/violence/statistics-media.html
-Both of these websites show the statistics within the violence that the media promotes. Statistics within the television era and the violence are bein show boated and revealed to the audience 17 and under. Given a social realization to wat happend as a result people came up to find these specific statistics.

Outline:
*Introduction: more violence increases the Debate
-"In April 1999 two teenage gunman stormed into their high school in Littleton, Colorado and started shooting their classmates"
-"the media violence is not new"
-"in the aftermath, as other troubled teens committed copy cat crimes,..."
-"Before the age of eighteen, the average American teen will have witnessed 18,000 simulated murders on TV."
-"The news media are blamed for focusing about 80 to 90 percent of the time on violent stories rather than on hopeful ones."

*Body: The violence shown within the early television network didn't focus on it as much as they do now of days.
-Censors would view an monitor programs for violence and offensive language then tell the producers if the content was strong. Yet in the 1970's and 80's violence increased which gave viewers a more realistic view.
-Violence can be seen in almost every show on television causing easy access to all ages. As told by Kathleen "About 75 percent of American homes have two or more television sets" which shows that the media lowered their censorship.

Body: Warnings about the violent content is nothing but interest to people. It does nothing 2 stop who watches nor who can watch the ratings of certain channels. Giving TV ratings to protect the kids from the violence.

Body: Concerned of the aggressiveness shown the government was urged to lower the amount of violence shown on television.

Body: Violence also comes in the form of a video game. Murder Simulators is what Lt Col. Dave Grossman calls it. In first player shooter games they teach how to shoot like soldiers. A Fourteen year old boy Michael Carneal stole a hand gun from his neighbor bringing it to school and fires eight shots. An average law enforcer hits about 1 bullet out of five, Michael hits all eight shots fired at each different student. All practice from a video game.

Conclusion or Last Paragraph: There was an incident on "The Jenny Jones Show" where the discussion was about "same sex crushes" guest Scott Amedure surprised Jonathan Schmitz with news of having a crush for him. Days later Schmitz who was embarrassed about the situation shot down Amedure at his house. This violent act brang the media to realize violence is not a joke its reality in which we live.
