I agree to this hypothesis where the ideal genetically engineered humans will come to represent as “the other.” As humans we have we try to be the best or seem to be dominant in life. Watching the process or seeing other humans that are superior then ourselves we get over protective to our egos. In the movie Gattaca at birth the newborn were checked to see its pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. Looking at the chances that the newborn would have living through out its years. To give change and service the cons within the child scientists can genetically engineer the flaws of the child, which would only be a minor set back. As the main character Vincent seemed to be “the other” between him, his brother, and in life he later on found out that he could genetically change that. George J. Annas’s hypothesis sounds accurate to what I think, which if engineered genetically either they will find us as the other and attempt to destroy us to reach control. As they are genetically engineered they would probably think they are better then us (which they are) and treat us lesser or destroy us. We as regular humans will think bad of those who are genetically engineered thinking they will kill or murder those who aren’t and seek to take control. Only finding them to be better triggering our jealousy automatically making them “the other” causes conflict between the two genes.
